Catholic School in Burien is seeking an energetic, faith-filled
principal to lead our school community. Ideal candidates are highly
effective communicators, creative problem solvers, and strong
advocates for continuous student growth. The principal will uphold
a high-quality Catholic education for all students while ensuring
long-term financial stability so the school may continue to grow
and thrive. This leadership role also includes overseeing
day-to-day administration, fiscal management and budgeting, student
recruitment, and the development and implementation of long-range
goals and strategic plans. St. Bernadette Parish was established in
1960 after the Ambaum family generously donated the land where our
school, church, and fields stand today. The school was originally
staffed and run by the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and
Christian Charity from Redwood, California. Today, St. Bernadette
Catholic School is staffed by dedicated lay professionals. Serving
students from Pre-K through eighth grade, the school is fully
accredited and committed to academic excellence, faith formation,
and strong community values. Qualifications for the Position
Practicing Catholic in good sacramental standing with a strong
commitment to Catholic education Master’s degree in Educational
Administration or similar advanced degree Holds a current
Washington State Principal Certification, or eligibility to hold
certification Minimum 5 years teaching experience Preferred Skill

school and guide into the future Major Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborates with the pastor/parochial minister in implementing the
mission of the Church. This is accomplished by participating in the
comprehensive planning, implementation and evaluation of the
school’s religious education program, goals and objectives with
particular emphasis on the Catholic faith formation. Ensures the
development and implementation of an overall learning environment
which promotes Catholic faith formation/education, ethical
decision-making, social justice and Christian leadership. This is
accomplished by promoting a curriculum that integrates Gospel
values, assuring the integration of the school as part of the
parish faith community. The principal enables staff to serve as
role models for students, promotes a leadership style compatible
with Christian principles, and serves as a personal witness to the
principles and values of the Catholic faith. Ensures the
development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive
curriculum program which complies with Archdiocesan and state
standards. This is accomplished by overseeing the implementation of
instructional goals and objectives for each grade, evaluating
current curriculum to determine strengths and weaknesses, and
collaborating with staff in selecting supplementary programs.
Oversees the supervision of certified and support staff. This is
accomplished by overseeing the recruitment, hiring, training,
motivation and evaluation processes. Principal oversees the
formulation and implementation of instructional goals and
objectives for individual teachers and provides instructional
resources and professional development for teachers. Principal
convenes staff to promote the integration of the school’s mission,
goals and policies; and to promote a working environment that
incorporates the principle of collaboration, subsidiary and shared
decision-making. Ensures that learning standards are developed and
maintained for effective instruction and student learning. This is
accomplished by assuring that students are assessed regularly and
appropriately, and that student progress is regularly shared with
parents. Principal oversees the development and maintenance of
accurate and current student records and files. Ensures the
development and maintenance of effective communication systems
between parents, teachers and school staff. This is accomplished
through regular written communication to the parents and wider
school & parish community, providing school-wide presentations,
coordinating regularly scheduled meeting opportunities between
teachers and parents, engagement in community activities, and
participating in Parents’ Club activities and meetings. Serves as
staff and executive officer to the School Commission. In
collaboration with the Commission Chair, the Principal prepares
agenda and relevant materials and other appropriate data as
requested by the Commission. The principal collaborates with the
Commission in setting annual tuition rates, preparing the annual
budget and modifying it as needed. Oversees the development of an
overall financial plan for the school. This includes monitoring
monthly financial statements, developing a long-range financial
plan, including fund-raising and endowment programs. Collaborates
with the Superintendent and the Office for Catholic Schools in
administering the school. This is accomplished by developing annual
school calendars, plans, goals and objectives, and participating in
programs, meetings, etc. sponsored by the department. Ensures the
development of policy and process for disciplining students by
incorporating the values of justice and making membership in a
community to promote positive discipline and consequences.
Participates with other secular and private schools in the
community in facilitating joint programs and/or the acquisition of
joint supplies with the local school district, in particular the
effective management of federal programs and related funding.
Ensures the preparation and submission of all necessary reports to
the state and Archdiocesan Catholic School Department. Principal
also adheres to all applicable state and Archdiocesan safety and
health regulations. Maintains a level of knowledge and skills
required to function as a Principal. This is accomplished through
reading, attendance at Archdiocesan in-service training
opportunities, participation in worships, conventions or
convocations and through membership in local, state or national
professional organizations, as approved and as appropriate. Salary
& Benefits Salary Range is $110,000 - $135,000. Any offered salary
is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges,
market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience,
degrees, and certifications. A comprehensive package of benefits is
offered including two medical plan options, dental, vision, life,
accidental death and disability, long term disability, pension,
403(b), HSA, FSA, and generous sick leave, vacation, and holidays.
