Position Summary

The City of Edmonds Meadowdale Preschool is looking for an energetic and motivated Preschool Assistant to assist in facilitating our afternoon program! This position will work alongside the Preschool Director to help up to 16 preschoolers discover the joy of learning. You will be working to bring exciting and educational experiences to your students, while also nurturing their growth as individuals.

Employment Dates and Hours

This position will start in the Fall, beginning September 13th and will work Monday-Thursday from approximately 12:00 pm -4:00 pm. This position has required training that will take place before school starts. Training dates will be scheduled with the chosen candidate after hire.

Edmonds Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services department serves as the community's key resource for providing parks, recreation and aquatic programs, culture arts tourism, economic development and enhanced quality of life for its citizens. There are more than 62 sites including 31 active parks that encompass over 325 acres, 20,000 square feet of flower beds and more than 3,000 feet of waterfront shoreline in the Edmonds Parks System.

About the City

The City of Edmonds is a beautiful community on the Puget Sound waterfront with a population of 42,470 and is the gateway to the Olympic peninsula via the state ferry system. Edmonds provides a full range of services, including contracted fire services, police services a municipal court, a community pool, a regional performing arts facility, public works and utilities, a regional wastewater treatment facility, along with community events and services through our Parks, Recreation, and

Cultural Services Department. Six department directors report directly to the Mayor and oversee approximately 241 full-time-equivalent employees.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions

+ Responsible for the activities of participants in the Meadowdale Preschool Program.

+ Assist with planning, organizing and implementing preschool activities.

+ Provide a safe, fun and comfortable environment for the children.

+ Assist with setup and cleanup of classroom and facilities, including vacuuming, sweeping and dishwashing.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge of:

+ Applicants must be genuinely knowledgeable and interested in the positive social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of young children.

+ Ability to communicate effectively with children 4-5 years of age.

+ Ability to follow directions and established procedures in a preschool setting.

+ Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

+ English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Required Skill in:

+ Relating well with children, students, parents, and staff.

+ Analyzing problems and providing clear solutions.

+ Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

+ Neatness and organizational skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Paid and/or volunteer experience working in a similar setting desirable.

Background in Early Childhood Education (ECE) preferred.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

Current First Aid/CPR Certification Preferred (Or ability to obtain before September 1)

Must be able to successfully complete and pass a background check.

+ Sitting or standing for extended periods.

Hazards:

+ Contact with sick children.

Temporary, non-regular part time, and seasonal employees are ineligible for benefits other than WA State Paid Sick Leave, which accrues at the rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked. Some exceptions apply to certain seasonal positions that may be union-eligible following a certain number of hours worked.

The City of Edmonds follows the ACA required measurement and administration periods for all non-benefited employees in order to determine future eligibility as required by law.
